‘시간을 머금은 순수’
작품마다 18세기 조선시대 분청과 백자 파편을 넣어 한국의 미를 살렸다．
인체를 꽉 채우지않고 여백을 둔 것은 관람객들이 상상으로 채워 넣으라는 의미다．
과거와 현대의 소통이 느껴지는 동시에 투박한 듯하면서도 세련된 한국적인 미가 돋보인다.
명문이 새겨진 조각 난 기왓장들을 시간 속에 담아두고 싶었다.

2015 조각가 이영섭 개인전 - 예동갤러리
이영섭의 이번 조각 전시는 발굴기법을 통해 한국의 정서성에 기인한 따뜻한 감성을 표현하고자 하였다.
조각에 회화성을 도입시키면서 친근하고 편안한 느낌을 주기도 하고 질박한 질감을 통해 오래된 듯하면서 자연에 동화된 느낌마저 든다.
최근 들어 소재에서 현대적인 재료인 스테인레스나 유리 또는 정선의 칠보석 등이 재료에 포함되기도 하는데 그동안 작업해왔던 다양한 재료들이 혼재되어 더욱 풍부한 작업세계를 보여주고 있다. 작품 내용도 인물이나 의자 테이블 등 조각의 경계를 넘어 일상에서 작가가 애착을 갖는 대상들이 모두 보여지고 있다.

In the daunting task of the sculptor Lee “sculpture in painting”, there are various factors.Excavation work in the natural represents the nature of soil.

The very traditional aspect of Korea from his sculpture is what he wants to reveal to all of the world.
He has kept his faith that the globalization of our art can be achieve through root of Korean spirit, and tradition. On this basis, we can develop a unique aesthetic that the world could appreciate.
회화를 닮은 조각
조각가 이영섭의 발굴작업 "회화가 있는 조각"에는 여러가지 요소들이 있습니다. 발굴작업은 작품에 흙의 질감을 자연스럽게 표현합니다.
흙의 질감에서 보여지는 시간성과 역사성을 그대로 받아들이고 자연스러운 한국 미의 음유, 여백, 풍자, 해학, 고졸미 등 여러 가지 요소들을 표현합니다. 이 부분이 조각가 이영섭이 조각에서 계속 말하고자 하는 부분이고, 이 부분을 세계화시키고 싶어합니다.
조각가 이영섭은 "우리의 전통성이 갖고 있는 한국조각, 한국 미를 현대적으로 다시 발전시켜서 현대조각이 이루어져야 우리의 전통을 계승하고 뿌리가 있는 미술이다." 라는 신념이 다름대로 있습니다. 그리고 개발해서 우리가 한국 미의 모티브를 통해서 조각을 해냈을때 비로소 세계적으로 어필할 수 있다고 생각합니다. 시간성을 담고있는 독특한 작업기법입니다.
